The Volcanic Biome replaces the Snow Biome in about half of all 99 Nights in the Forest runs. You can spot it by dead trees, scorched ground and smoke on the horizon.
Its big feature is the Volcano itself. Cultist corpses you throw in come back as random loot, and the gems you earn there summon the Cultist King, one of the hardest bosses in the game.
What to do in the Volcanic Biome
- 1
Kill cultists and keep their corpses in your sack.
- 2
Throw corpses into the Volcano for random loot such as Cultist Gems and Infernal weapons.
- 3
Collect 4 Cultist Gems and place them on the altars in the Cultist King base.
- 4
Fight the Cultist King from range, in daylight, with friends.
- 5
Use the Ammo Furnace and loot Hot Chests for ammo and Sacrifice Totems.
Lava hurts everything that touches it, including you. The Deer and the Owl are immune.
How volcano sacrifices work
Every corpse or totem you throw into the Volcano counts as a charge, and each sacrifice gives a random reward.
| Sacrifice | Charges |
|---|---|
| Cultist, Crossbow Cultist or Juggernaut corpse | 1 |
| Cultist King corpse | 2 |
| Sacrifice Totem (from Hot Chests) | 2 |
| Alien and wolf corpses | Count as sacrifices |
Possible rewards include the Cultist Gem, a Gem of the Forest Fragment, a Crossbow and the Infernal Sword. Store as many corpses as you can; every sacrifice also counts toward the Volcanology badge.
How to summon and beat the Cultist King
- Clear the guards at the Cultist King base, a castle-like building in the Volcanic Biome.
- Find the four altars in front of the tinted glass and place one Cultist Gem on each.
- The King only uses melee. Stay back with a crossbow, rifle or tactical shotgun.
- Fight in daylight. The Ram spawns at night and makes the fight much harder.
- Rewards: coins, the Cultist King Antler, Wildfire potions and an Infernal Sword or Infernal Crossbow.

- It is the same minigame as normal fishing: click when the bar hits the green zone.
- Stay away from the lava edge and fish on quiet nights or early mornings.
Rod upgrades and every fish are in our fishing guide.
